a new kind of food data platform.

We are a team of designers, dietitians, and creative technologists with a simple mission: reimagine food data by making it smart, simple, and personalized. Until now, this info has often been unapproachable, confusing, and rarely tells the complete story.

That’s why we built the food data platform we’ve always wanted. We think of it as our dream label. We love it, and hope you do too. If you have any suggestions or feedback, or want to get involved, please email us. We'd love to hear from you!

The people

behind the Sage Project.

The Sage Project is an NYC-based platform created by a team of designers, dietitians, data scientists, and creative technologists. We come from many backgrounds but we all share a common mission of making food data more accessible to the world. If you’re in NYC, come drop by and break bread with the team.

Sam Slover

Co-Founder & CEO

Sam oversees data, design, and the overall vision of the Sage Project. He's a graduate and adjunct professor at NYU's Interactive Telecommunications Program (ITP), where he focuses on visualizing food systems and designing around personal data.

Stefan Mirea

Co-Founder & CTO

Stefan is the main architect, backend, DevOps engineer, and a serious food lover — specifically a lover of meats. Stefan graduated from the Jacobs University Bremen, located in Germany, where he obtained a degree in Computer Science.

Jessie Wright

Jessie is a native New Yorker, oatmeal purist, and leads operations for the Sage Project. Her credentials include an A.B. in Government from Harvard University with a Master's in Food Studies from NYU. For Jessie, the Sage Project is a food data revolution, "it's the missing link between consumers and the products they use everyday."

Hui Xuan Chew

Nutrition & Research

Hui Xuan leads product research and contributes to the verification and interpretation of nutrition data on the platform. She sees the Sage Project as a visually elegant way to learn about any food item — what it is nutritionally, where it is from, how it fits into her eating patterns and her personal goals.

Brendan Brazier

Brendan is the co-founder and formulator of Vega, bestselling author of the Thrive book series, and is regarded as one of the world’s leading authorities on plant-based performance nutrition. He now invests in and works with socially responsible food & tech companies whose mandate is to fix our food system and reduce the environmental strain of food production.

Evan Schneider

Senior Software Engineer

Evan is a creative engineer living in Brooklyn, in love with good design, and is helping make the food we eat easier to understand. He bought O'Reillys first book on CSS when he was fourteen and has spent the last six years building startups in New York.

Shin Yi Chong

Nutrition & Research

Shin Yi graduated from NYU with a degree in Nutrition & Dietetics and is passionate about helping people to better understand their food and live a healthy lifestyle. In her free time, she likes to explore the city and experiment making delicious clean meals, and she once inadvertantly tricked Jessie into eating GMO oatmeal.
